The 90% of Lesbos refugees have reached the island by sea from Turkey in extremely dangerous conditions; many of them have fallen into the sea or have seen other people falling in this journey of shame. Many people carry a serious trauma related to water due to this trip and the vast majority do not know how to swim. YSFR helps these people reconcile with the sea and learn to swim for the first time in life.
When the season begins and temperatures rise, the swimming classes that are the most successful of YSFR. Always under the watchful eye of a lifeguard, volunteers teach the most basic steps to learn how to swim and arrange leisure activities on Kara Tepe Beach. The main objectives of these classes are: to learn to swim, to overcome the trauma of the sea and to generate a space of disinhibition in a natural environment and ... to have fun!
