The situation of women in the refugee camps is even worse than men. They suffer a double burden because of being refugees and women, they are prevented from leaving the camp, assigned to do housework and take care of children, suffer abuses and violence continuously, etc. This exploitation of women is completely ignored by Europe, which does not give sufficient tools to end this shameful situation of patriarchal violence.

Sport for refugees saw the urgent need to create a space of empowerment only for women where to perform physical activity with a gender perspective. It is very important for them to be able to emerge from environments of great sexist influence and find a moment of retirement, freedom and security. By creating non-mixed spaces, we have managed to make women perform activities such as fitness, dance and swimming (on a separated beach), which are otherwise impossible to carry out.
